Holi, one of the most vibrant and widely celebrated Hindu festivals, marks the arrival of spring and the victory of good over evil. It is a time of joy, unity, and renewal, celebrated with colors, laughter, and festive spirit across India and beyond.
The festival’s roots lie in ancient Hindu mythology, primarily the legend of Prahlad and Holika. According to the story, young Prahlad, a devoted follower of Lord Vishnu, refused to worship his father, the demon king Hiranyakashipu. To punish him, the king’s sister Holika, who was immune to fire, sat with Prahlad in a burning pyre. However, her powers failed due to her misuse of the boon, and she perished while Prahlad emerged unharmed — symbolizing the triumph of devotion and good over evil.
This event is commemorated as Holika Dahan, celebrated on the eve of Holi.
